Smartphone shopping getting more popular

Smartphone shopping getting more popularPhoto by istock.com

While 42% of retail sales are being made on a smartphone, retailers are still a bit behind in catching up to the consumer purchase option.

More retailers are becoming a mobile-first organization or in the process of becoming one, according to a report from Quiq, a business messaging software provider. Its "2020 Retail Mobile Trends Report," reveals 14% of retailers identify as a mobile-first organization and 62% are integrating mobile into e-commerce and operational strategies.

The study, conducted by Sapio, also noted that 54% of retailers are not fully prepared to meet today's customer's mobile needs, according to a press release. However, 65% of the retailers polled said mobile technology has increased their sales revenue.

"Amazon’s growth and its effect on consumer expectations has driven more and more retailers to make significant improvements to their digital and mobile offerings," said Mike Myer, founder and CEO of Quiq, in the release. "Consumers today want frictionless shopping and purchase experiences, and those retailers that deliver on these expectations will see payoffs."
