Remote Work

Why remote workers love co-working spaces

Remote work witnessed a rapid growth owing to several benefits. However, the most appreciated benefit was not to be working in a traditional office space. By and large, office spaces are not customisable to the whims and fancies of each employee. Because of this, employees get bored of their never-changing environment. The most direct result of this is a rapid drop in productivity

With employees working remotely, a majority of them chose to do so from their homes. Now, with them working out of their homes regularly, one is bound to be bored of it too. Seems like the entire purpose of having a flexible work environment with remote work has been defeated again, right?

Not really. The scenario changed with the introduction of co-working spaces. A shared working space with so many diverse workplaces that you get to spruce up your work environment every day.

But is that the only reason co-working spaces have become so popular? There is bound to be a reason why more and more remote employees are stepping out of their homes and their favorite coffee shops and choosing to work from a co-working space.

An interesting factThere are approximately over 35,000 flexible workspaces in the entire world, which represents 521 million square feet of flexible space.

Let’s check out a few of the reasons why remote workers love co-working spaces.

#1 Co-working spaces bring a change in the work environment

Offices are too boring and home eventually gets boring too. So many people find it difficult to concentrate with the office buzz going around. People talking to each other about work, or people gossiping. It gets very difficult for many people to put in their 100% is such office spaces. However, there are also offices where it is usually pin drop silence. While some people thrive from the bustle of an active office and derive their daily energy from it, some people are their most productive in quiet work environments. Clearly, a single office type does not suit all.

On the other hand, co-working spaces offer a lot of variety in your work environment. You can choose to select a solitude space or a common working table. There is an abundance of variety available. Thus, you feel comfortable working in your chosen environment.

Moreover, not just remote workers, people availing work from home are choosing co-working spaces instead of their homes too. In 2018, the demand of flexible workspace solutions from corporate clients increased by 21%.

#2 It helps you clearly demarcate your work hours

Currently, many people complain about how they do not know when to stop working when working remotely. You wake up and sit in your bed or sofa or home office and start working. When do you log out and switch off? An email received after your official working hours is so tempting to reply to.

One usually think – how much time would it possibly take? It’ll just be 2 minutes. Just have to send a quick confirmation.

Generally, when you work from a traditional office, the minute you leave the office and commute back home, you know you are not going to be working now. You have a clear demarcation of when to stop working. But how do you do the same when working from home?

This is something co-working spaces took care of. Since you have to go to your co-working space and then travel back home, you know exactly when to stop working. This is not just a simple solution to setting your work hours but also to give yourself some self care and peace of mental health. If you keep working constantly, you will eventually burn out. The entire purpose of remote work was to empower employees to take charge of their working hours and environment and be able to cut down on their stress levels. If one continues working even when doing so remotely, the entire purpose gets defeated.

#3 Co-working spaces cut down on all the office distractions

Yes, co-working spaces have other people working along with you. It is not exactly a solitary space. Yet, you can so easily dive into your own cocoon of space and work peacefully. This happens because the people working around you are not exactly from your organisation. Because of this, the usual office chatter and gossip does not take place even when there are people working around you. Apart from the usual social networking chats, you don’t really know these people. Conversations with them are usually very formal or minimal to say the least.

This is why one is so less distracted when they work from a co-working space. You can have a break and chit chat with people around you. And after a well deserved break, you can go back to working without other people bothering you. It is the ultimate dream come true.

#4 One does not have to worry about preparing their food

You are bound to get hungry when working. Cooking food takes time. When working from home, you have to get up in between and prepare your food. When you are in an office, you come with your food prepared beforehand. If not, you always have the office cafeteria to take care of your hunger pangs and quick refreshments. However, the same does not happen at home. You either have to cook your food from time to time or you spend a significant amount of time deciding what you should order for takeout.

Co-working spaces take care of this too. They provide refreshments, snacks, beverages, and even full meals all the time. You do not have to worry about cooking or ordering. Food is just a few paces away from you.

Final thoughts

The average coworking space requirement continues to increase year after year, with the average client taking 7 desks. Clearly, co-working spaces are here to stay and they are growing rapidly. People love them. And even if you do not feel the need to work from one, what is the harm in giving it a try anyway?
