We all need to make more effort to show up in other people’s lives in ways that are supportive and enriching.

If you work in a customer support segment you’re probably familiar with the celebration of Customer Support Week. For those who are new to the customer service world, let’s introduce you to the history behind the event.

Did you know that….?

It has been more than 30 years since the first week of October was set to celebrate customer service. It began as a pledge and grew into an international event celebrated over the world, mostly in the U.S. Established by the International Customer Service Association (ICSA, now PACE), National Customer Service Week was proclaimed an official event by the U.S. Congress in 1992, via Presidential Proclamation.

There are many ways how you can appreciate your customer support workers. We chose several tips which won’t cost you a fortune but will make a significant impact when it comes to your employee happiness.

1. Workshop or course by employee’s preference

Help your support agents to grow & improve. The good ones will pay you back in the form of a job well done. Now you have a perfect chance to show that you care about their career path. Possibilities are wide – from online training to courses and online academies.

2. Wellness, massage voucher, or personalized gift

We can rarely find a person who wouldn’t be pleased by a voucher. Use your fantasy and make a decision based on your employee’s personality. What does she/he prefer? What does she/he like? What type of voucher will make your employee happy?

Talk to your employees about their feelings and ideas. How do they perceive their jobs? What motivates them the most? Listen carefully to what they say & try to understand their intentions.

4. A snack that they love

Did we mention that your gift doesn’t have to be expensive? It’s a big truth that even the little surprises can make us smile. Give your support agent sweets or snacks he/she loves.

customer support week5. Handwritten thank-you note

Do you remember “no Messenger, no Instagram, no WhatsApp time”? Well, let’s use the charm of good old times to your advantage. We’ve heard that hand-made gifts count twice.

customer support week6. One extra day off

If you don’t have any creative ideas in mind, bet on the choice no one will refuse. If your current situation allows it, offer your customer support agent one extra day off. Remember, who works the best of all? The relaxed and happy employee.

7. Donation to charities of employees choice

An old saying says that we can only be happy if we give away happiness. What about trying this untraditional gift? Moreover, your employees might share it and inspire others. There are never too many good little acts.

customer support weekBonus tip: Manage a “Wish Board”

You don’t know how to find things that your employees might like? Manage a “Wish Board” so they can write down their ideas. The next time you look for ways to please them, you’ll know exactly what to do. In addition, it is also a good way to show that you care about your team.
